How We Help
We understand that needing a tooth removed can feel stressful — but the procedure itself is far more straightforward than most patients expect. With thorough local anaesthetic, you won't feel pain during the extraction, only mild pressure as the tooth is loosened and removed.
Our experienced dentists perform both simple extractions (for visible teeth) and surgical extractions (for impacted or broken teeth requiring an incision). We'll explain exactly what to expect before we begin.
Aftercare is an important part of the process. We provide detailed written instructions to support your recovery and discuss tooth replacement options at your appointment — replacing the extracted tooth prevents the surrounding teeth from shifting and the jawbone from deteriorating over time.
We always try to save the tooth first. Extraction is only recommended when all other options — fillings, root canal, crowns — have been considered and are not viable.
The Process
A gentle, step-by-step procedure completed in a single appointment.
We take digital X-rays to map the tooth's root structure and determine whether a simple or surgical extraction is required.
The area is fully numbed. We take the time to ensure you're completely comfortable before we begin — you should feel pressure but no pain.
Using precise instruments, the tooth is carefully loosened and removed. Simple extractions are often completed in just a few minutes.
We provide written aftercare instructions and discuss tooth replacement options — dental implants, bridges or dentures — to prevent bone loss.

FAQs
Extraction is recommended when a tooth is too severely decayed or broken to be saved with a filling, crown or root canal treatment, when a tooth is causing an abscess, when wisdom teeth are impacted, or when teeth need to be removed before orthodontic treatment.
No. The area is fully numbed with local anaesthetic before we begin. You will feel pressure during the procedure, but not pain. If you feel any discomfort, let us know and we'll apply more anaesthetic.
Most patients recover within 2–3 days after a simple extraction. The socket takes 1–2 weeks to fully close. During recovery, avoid smoking, drinking through straws, and hard foods, as these can disturb the healing blood clot.
We'll discuss your options at the appointment. Dental implants are the gold standard — they replace the root as well as the crown. Dental bridges and dentures are also effective solutions. We recommend replacing extracted teeth to prevent bone loss and shifting of surrounding teeth.
Yes. We keep same-day appointment slots available for dental emergencies, including extractions. Call (02) 9055 1735 and we'll see you as soon as possible.
